How To Get A Piercing Under 18
The only way you should get a piercing under 18 is by convincing your parent/guardian to let you get a piercing.
While it can be nerve-wracking, getting an unauthorized piercing or doing it yourself is a way bigger risk than asking your parents! You have a high chance of rejection and scarring when you don't go about it the right way.
Here's 2 steps on how to win your guardians over :
If you are 18+ this does not apply to you, you should respect your guardian/guardians and their opinions but your opinion matters too!
1. Do Your Research
Most guardians will make a decision based off your maturity, so the first thing that you have to do is understand.
Being aware of your age and the dangers of getting an incorrect piercing is the first step to getting a good answer!
Before you ask about anything you want to do, you NEED to evaluate your age, the pros/cons, and the consistent routines that will need to be put into place to keep up with your new responsibility if you'd like your parents to agree.
2. Honesty
Most of the time we assume we know where our guardian stands, when really all we have to do is communicate to ease their concerns.
The next step is to put the word in and have a quick convo with them.
Adults aren't stupid, so don't try to manipulate! Be genuine and go about it in the way that you feel is best. Most parents have a lot on their mind so good communication and the right timing is best and will help you out.
You can say something like.. "Belly piercings are really cute, I think I want one because I really like how they look, what do you think?". Asking your guardian for their opinion is an automatic plus, they care about you so making it clear their opinion matters to you will help.
Now it's time to listen to them to understand their point of view and see what concerns they would have. Some parents may automatically say yes, some may say no immediately, some may be on the fence, and some may just say, "We'll talk about it later".
Don't be nervous, regardless of the answer.
3. What Happens If They Say "NO."
As you get older, your parents love to have responsible conversations with you, and appreciate you showing your responsibility through honesty. Regardless of their answer towards your question.
A “No” can always turn into a “Yes” but it will take time. You have to be understanding, patience is key!
